About the Role

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of News Anchor.

Key Responsibilities

Story Development & Research

• Generate ideas for stories and features, following leads from news agencies, police, the public, press conferences, and other sources
• Pitch ideas to editors and commissioners
• Research, verify, and collate evidence and information to support stories using relevant sources such as the internet, archives, and databases
• Research local, national, and international current events within the community

Writing & Editorial

• Write scripts for bulletins, headlines, and reports
• Select appropriate locations, pictures, and sound
• Exercise editorial judgment on the best angle to approach a story
• Decide on the running order for bulletins and make necessary changes during broadcast
• Prepare timings for each news item and monitor these during broadcast

Production & Technical Management

• Identify necessary resources and deploy and manage technical crews for location shoots, including sound operators and camera crew
• Provide directorial input and advise crews on what to film or record
• Use portable digital video (DV) cameras and other equipment to record material
• Produce complete packages for broadcast
• Collaborate with the editor to finalize completed items

On-Air Presentation

• Prepare and present material on air for both pre-recorded and live pieces
• Identify potential interviewees, brief them, and prepare interview questions
• Conduct both live and recorded interviews

Coordination & Team Collaboration

• Meet with the Executive News Editor, Executive Producer, Producer, Reporters, and other News Anchors to be briefed on the day's news
• Work with the Executive News Editor to choose stories to broadcast, considering audience preferences
• Develop and maintain local contacts, assuming a public relations role

Compliance

• Understand and comply with media law and industry codes of conduct
