Field Support Engineer (Fiber)

About the Role

We are seeking a Field Support Engineer specializing in fiber optics to join our team. This role involves hands-on installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure for telecommunications projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Install connectors (LC, SC, ST, etc.) and terminate fiber within Patch Panels, Optical Distribution Frames (ODFs), and Joint Boxes
• Oversee the laying of fiber via duct blowing, trenching (Outside Plant – OSP), or indoor cabling (Inside Plant – ISP) for FTTx or backbone projects
• Install optical splitters, media converters, and Optical Line Terminals (OLT)
• Use Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) to characterize fiber links, measure total length, and identify the location of splices, connectors, and macro-bends
• Use digital fiber microscopes to inspect connector end-faces for scratches or contamination, following IEC 61300-3-35 standards
• Use Visual Fault Locator (VFL) red laser to identify continuity issues or fiber breaks over short distances
• Manage fiber congestion within data centers or hubs to ensure cables are neatly routed and do not exceed minimum bend radius specifications
• Create and update Splicing Matrices and fiber-to-fiber mapping diagrams to maintain accurate records for future troubleshooting

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree, HND, or OND qualification
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in fiber optics installation or field support
