About the Role

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of News Anchor at News Central TV in Lagos, Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate ideas for stories and features, following leads from news agencies, police, the public, press conferences, and other sources
• Pitch story ideas to editors and commissioners
• Research, verify, and collate evidence and information to support stories using relevant sources such as the internet, archives, and databases
• Write scripts for bulletins, headlines, and reports
• Select appropriate locations, pictures, and sound; exercise editorial judgment on the best approach for each story
• Identify necessary resources and deploy and manage technical crews for location shoots, including sound operators and camera crew
• Provide directorial input and advise crews on what to film or record
• Operate portable digital video cameras and other equipment to record material
• Produce complete packages for broadcast
• Prepare and present material on air for both pre-recorded and live pieces
• Identify potential interviewees, brief them, prepare interview questions, and conduct both live and recorded interviews
• Prepare timings for each news item and monitor these during broadcast
• Decide on the running order for bulletins and make necessary changes during broadcast
• Collaborate with the editor to finalize completed items
• Develop and maintain local contacts and assume a public relations role
• Understand and comply with media law and industry codes of conduct
• Research local, national, and international current events
• Meet with the Executive News Editor, in collaboration with the Executive Producer, Producer, Reporters, and other News Anchors to be briefed on the day's news
• Work with the Executive News Editor to select stories for broadcast, considering audience preferences
• Organize news content to present the most interesting and relevant stories
