Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified Credit Control Manager to lead our credit control function and manage a team responsible for recovering unpaid debts and outstanding amounts owed to the organisation. This role plays a vital part in our finance department, ensuring timely invoice payments and supporting organisational cash flow. The position encompasses both commercial collection (business debts) and consumer collection activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise a team of Credit Control Officers
- Formulate and implement the company's credit policy to mitigate unnecessary risk
- Review credit applications, credit references, and financial information to set appropriate credit limits and assess creditworthiness
- Prepare journal entries, credit notes, and assist with month-end closing procedures
- Review and report on aged debtors and collection performance
- Negotiate terms and maintain relationships with third-party debt collection agencies
- Manage write-offs, bad debt provisions, and establish payment plans for customers
- Review and improve credit processes and procedures to reduce debtor days
- Support the broader accounts team as required
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5 years' experience in credit control, accounts receivable, and accounting
- Proven experience with end-to-end credit control and accounts receivable processes
- Demonstrated staff management and team leadership experience
- Working knowledge of credit law and regulations
- Strong accounting and reconciliation abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in difficult customer negotiations
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Strong multitasking capabilities
- Intermediate computer proficiency with Excel and accounting software packages
