Credit Control (Account Receivable Officer)

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Credit Control Manager to lead our credit control function and manage a team responsible for recovering unpaid debts and outstanding amounts owed to the organisation. This role plays a vital part in our finance department, ensuring timely invoice payments and supporting organisational cash flow. The position encompasses both commercial collection (business debts) and consumer collection activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise a team of Credit Control Officers
• Formulate and implement the company's credit policy to mitigate unnecessary risk
• Review credit applications, credit references, and financial information to set appropriate credit limits and assess creditworthiness
• Prepare journal entries, credit notes, and assist with month-end closing procedures
• Review and report on aged debtors and collection performance
• Negotiate terms and maintain relationships with third-party debt collection agencies
• Manage write-offs, bad debt provisions, and establish payment plans for customers
• Review and improve credit processes and procedures to reduce debtor days
• Support the broader accounts team as required

Required Experience and Skills

• Minimum 5 years' experience in credit control, accounts receivable, and accounting
• Proven experience with end-to-end credit control and accounts receivable processes
• Demonstrated staff management and team leadership experience
• Working knowledge of credit law and regulations
• Strong accounting and reconciliation abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in difficult customer negotiations
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
• Strong multitasking capabilities
• Intermediate computer proficiency with Excel and accounting software packages
