GIZ is an international service provider in the field of sustainable development and international education cooperation. With over 50 years of experience, GIZ works across diverse sectors including economic development, employment promotion, energy, environment, and peace and security.

Our expertise is sought globally by the German Government, European Union institutions, the United Nations, the private sector, and governments worldwide. We partner with businesses, civil society actors, and research institutions to foster successful interaction between development policy and other policy areas.

GIZ employs approximately 23,500 staff across around 120 countries, with nearly 70 percent being national personnel. In Nigeria, GIZ has operated since 1974 and maintains a country office in Abuja since 2004, currently employing 466 national staff, 63 international employees, 37 regional staff, 4 integrated specialists, and 3 development workers.

About the Project

The Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power (FMP).

The programme aims to enable and foster investments in Nigeria's domestic market for renewable energy and energy efficiency, while improving access to electricity across the country.
