## Title: Vehicle Mechanic
Job Overview
The Mechanic will ensure that all African Parks vehicles are maintained and serviced on a regular basis to facilitate the greatest technical impact to the program. Working under the supervision of the workshop manager and in consultation with the field operations manager, you will be directly responsible for the upkeep of vehicles by carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs.
Main Responsibilities
- In consultation with the Park Manager and Field Operations Manager, prepare a bi-annual regular service plan for all vehicles and generators
- Travel with sufficient spare parts and tools to carry out regular servicing and maintenance at each location as per the servicing plan or as needed
- Monitor vehicles and generators at field offices to ensure they are in good technical condition
- Ensure that vehicles are safe and fit to drive at all times
- Check and ensure each vehicle calling for maintenance has an African Parks standard first aid kit and tools
- Advise and support procurement and field operations on the purchasing of genuine spare parts, ensuring prices remain competitive
- Monitor the use of spare parts in your location
- Keep accurate records regarding workshop tools, spare parts, expendable stock, and equipment
- Keep records of repairs and servicing, ensuring each vehicle is serviced every 5,000 km
- Fit service stickers on logbooks to remind drivers of the next service due
- Supervise all major repairs, body work, painting, and interior trim carried out by external contractors, monitoring quality of work, timelines, labor costs, and value for money
- Ensure that generators at the African Parks location are in good working condition and are serviced on a regular basis
- Educate drivers on basic vehicle maintenance, vehicle operation, winch operation, and tire repair
- Ensure drivers are completing daily and weekly maintenance checks
- Identify future and current problems on vehicles and generators and report them appropriately
