About the Organization
The Center for Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD) is a board-led, non-profit, non-governmental civil society organization registered under the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (registry number 4307) according to the Civil Societies Law 1113/2019. CARD acquired its legal personality on 24 July 2019.
CARD aspires to see Ethiopia become a place where human rights are respected and democratic culture flourishes. Since its foundation, CARD has been operating with a mission of advancing a conducive civic, media, and digital space for the respect of human rights and cultivation of democratic mass culture in Ethiopia.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to join CARD, one of the most vibrant human rights organizations in Ethiopia, and play a vital role in understanding the Ethiopian social media landscape to promote human rights and good governance. You will be responsible for monitoring online conversations in Amharic and Afaan Oromo, identifying trends in disinformation and sensitive topics, and contributing to the development of the bi-weekly Social Media Conversation Sensitivity Report (SMCSR).
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor social media platforms in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic for conversations relevant to Ethiopian politics and social issues
- Identify and analyze trends in disinformation, hate speech, and inflammatory content
- Prepare reports summarizing key findings and insights for the SMCSR
- Stay updated on current events in Ethiopia and the evolving online landscape
- Conduct research and identify emerging issues of concern
- Work collaboratively with the SMCSR team to ensure the accuracy of monitoring and reporting
