About the Organization
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is implementing the Strengthening Rural Value Chains II (SRVC II) project—a bilateral initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia.
Project Overview
SRVC II is a three-year agricultural value chain development (VCD) project (2025-2027) that builds on and expands the preceding SRVC project (2021-2024). The comprehensive initiative aims to strengthen private sector development, supply chain management, and post-harvest management while supporting public sector partners with agricultural policy development and inter-sectoral coordination.
Project Objectives
- Strengthen private sector development and supply chain management
- Improve post-harvest management practices
- Increase productivity, resilience, and product quality
- Expand access to national and international markets
- Support Ethiopia's agricultural sector contribution to national food security, economic development, and employment
- Develop agricultural policy and inter-sectoral coordination
Project Components
The project is structured into three integrated components:
- Oilseeds
- Horticulture – Supported by additional Gates Foundation funding to develop value chains in the Arba Minch-Addis Ababa corridor, as well as in Kenya and Uganda, implemented in close collaboration with the Ethiopian Horticulture Association (EHPEA) and through contract farming promotion
- Coffee – Financed by the European Union and implemented jointly with Spain and Italy within a Multi-Partner Contribution Agreement (MPCA), focusing on coffee VCD and EUDR compliance to support Ethiopian coffee producers and exporters in reaching EU markets
