Job description
About EHRCO
The Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-partisan civil society organization established on October 10, 1991, and re-registered with the Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) under Registration No. 1146.
EHRCO works on human rights, democracy, and rule of law. Its human rights work aims to ensure accountability for human rights violations, amplify the voices of victims and survivors, and engage in national, regional, and international human rights mechanisms through credible, accurate, and ethical documentation and reporting of human rights challenges.
Context of the Assignment
Ethiopia is undertaking two national transitional processes to create a clean break from its immediate past:
- The National Dialogue process
- The Transitional Justice process
EHRCO aims to contribute meaningfully to both processes by:
- Presenting a body of evidence regarding human rights violations committed over the last 30 years in Ethiopia to ensure accountability through the Transitional Justice process
- Contributing to the national dialogue process by monitoring the agenda selection process across different regions, with a specific focus on whether the process has been inclusive of marginalized voices in society
Against this background, EHRCO seeks high-level expertise to organize the body of evidence accumulated over the last 30 years in a manner that serves as credible documentation for ensuring accountability for human rights violations as part of the transitional justice process. Additionally, EHRCO requires expert services for developing monitoring tools to assess the inclusivity of marginalized voices in the national dialogue process.
