About the Organization

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is implementing the Strengthening Rural Value Chains (SRVC) project in Ethiopia, a bilateral initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia.

Project Overview

The SRVC II project is a comprehensive three-year agricultural value chain development (VCD) initiative (2025-2027) that builds on and expands the preceding SRVC project (2021-2024). The project aims to strengthen private sector development, supply chain management, and post-harvest management while supporting public sector partners with agricultural policy development and inter-sectoral coordination.

Project Objectives

• Strengthen Ethiopia's agricultural sector to contribute to national food security, economic development, and employment
• Increase productivity, resilience, and product quality
• Improve access to national and international markets
• Support private sector development across agricultural value chains

Project Components

The project is structured into three integrated components:

• Oilseeds
• Horticulture — supported by additional funding from the Gates Foundation to develop value chains in the Arba Minch-Addis Ababa corridor, Kenya, and Uganda, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Horticulture Association (EHPEA)
• Coffee — financed by the European Union and implemented jointly with Spain and Italy under a Multi-Partner Contribution Agreement (MPCA), focusing on coffee value chain development and EUDR compliance to support Ethiopian coffee producers and exporters in reaching EU markets
