Reporting Structure
Reports to: MEAL Officer
Department: MEAL
Location: Addis Ababa – Secretariat Office
Role Overview
The MEAL Assistant will be part of the MEAL team in pursuing monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning tasks alongside the MEAL Officer. The position requires timely and accurate documentation of project progress, lessons learned, best practices, and reporting through the development and implementation of a sound M&E system. The role contributes to program quality assurance and data management, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The position also provides MEAL technical support and guidance to NEWA's sub-grantees.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct collaborative and independent supportive supervision involving beneficiaries and other key stakeholders
- Perform quarterly and bi-annual joint field visits to monitor project implementation, ensuring alignment with proposed plans, and submit findings to the MEAL Officer
- Plan and ensure effective and timely program data capture from field locations
- Support design of data collection tools used during program implementation
- Ensure implementation of minimum standards for project activities
- Conduct independent monitoring against objectives and indicators
- Collate success stories and produce best practices and learnings
- Collate and analyze project participant feedback, baselines, and evaluations
Project Design Phase
- Work collaboratively with the MEAL Officer on needs and contextual analysis
- Support development of logical frameworks and theories of change
Project Planning Phase
- Ensure MEAL Systems Development for each project, including:
- MEAL plans
- Minimum quality standard monitoring checklists
- Project reporting formats
- Data management tools for NEWA's programs and projects
Project Implementation
- Work collaboratively with program staff to implement planned M&E activities
