Job description
About the Organization
NRC (Norwegian Refugee Council) is seeking a motivated professional to join our humanitarian operations in Burkina Faso. Since 2019, NRC has been working to address Livelihoods and Food Security challenges faced by displaced populations and host communities in the region.
Context
The humanitarian situation in the cross-border area between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger continues to deteriorate. The worsening security situation has forced thousands of people from the Sahel, North Central, and East regions to flee to neighboring towns. The presence of non-state armed groups and improvised explosive devices has made roads inaccessible and hindered activities.
The violence is severely impacting fragile livelihoods and people's ability to support themselves, while also straining already weak basic social services. More people are repeatedly fleeing their homes in search of safety in nearby fields or villages. As of May 2023, 2.6 million people are internally displaced in Burkina Faso. The Sahel and Centre-Nord regions are most affected with the largest number of displaced people, though displacement is worsening in the East and Boucle de Mouhoun regions as well.
Large-scale displacement has a significant impact on already scarce natural resources, negatively affecting both displaced populations and host communities. This increases the risk of undermining social cohesion and population protection. Humanitarian access to populations in need and access to basic social services remain major challenges, with a shrinking humanitarian space in areas where humanitarian activities are concentrated.
