Background
The Community Technology Development Organisation (CTDO) is currently implementing the Enhanced Resilience, Adaptation to Shocks and Economic Strengthening (ERASE) Continuation Project across three districts: Rushinga, Mt Darwin, and Seke. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance household incomes and improve food security for smallholder farmers by fostering stronger market connections and promoting sustainable water and ecosystem management practices.
Objective of the Market Study
This assignment aims to conduct a comprehensive market study to assess the current market dynamics, identify opportunities, and evaluate constraints within the target districts. The findings will inform project strategies to strengthen linkages between smallholder farmers and viable markets, ultimately contributing to increased resilience and economic stability.
Scope of Work
- Analyze existing market systems, including supply chains, pricing mechanisms, and market access points in Rushinga, Mt Darwin, and Seke.
- Identify key stakeholders such as traders, processors, input suppliers, and financial service providers involved in agricultural value chains.
- Assess the capacity and needs of smallholder farmers to engage effectively with markets.
- Evaluate infrastructure, transportation, and logistical barriers affecting market participation.
- Provide recommendations for improving market linkages and income generation for target communities.
Location
The study will be conducted in the following districts in Zimbabwe: Rushinga, Mt Darwin, and Seke.
Key Deliverables
- A detailed inception report outlining the methodology and work plan.
- A comprehensive market study report with findings, analysis, and actionable recommendations.
- A presentation of key findings to CTDO and relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in economics, agricultural economics, development studies, or a related field.
- Proven experience in conducting market studies, value chain analysis, or similar research, preferably in rural or smallholder farming contexts.
- Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the target districts (Rushinga, Mt Darwin, Seke) is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and deliver within set timelines.
