Fish Health Practitioner / Veterinarian

About the Position

Aquasante Rwanda Ltd is seeking a dedicated Fish Health Practitioner, Veterinarian, Nurse, or Biologist to lead fish health and biosecurity efforts at our tilapia fish farm in Lake Kivu. You do not need to be a fish expert, but you must have a strong medical or biological foundation.

• Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years renewable
• Working Days: According to contract

Main Responsibilities

• Fish Health Surveillance: Perform routine and targeted inspections to monitor fish for signs of disease, stress, or behavioral changes
• Sampling & Laboratory Work: Conduct practical lab tasks including sample collection for agar plates, resistance testing, microscopy diagnostics, gram staining, and PCR sample preparation
• Diagnostics & Treatment: Identify diseases and establish appropriate treatment plans, including calculating and formulating medicated feed when necessary
• Biosecurity & Protocols: Identify biological hazards, develop necessary protocols, and ensure compliance to maintain food safety and prevent disease outbreaks
• Staff Education: Train staff to recognize biohazards and understand the rationale behind health routines, building a culture of disease prevention responsibility across the organization
• Hatchery Development: Serve as a fish health advisor during the startup of our new hatchery
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all medications and health-related activities
