Organization Overview
Trócaire is an Irish development agency established in 1973 by the Catholic Bishops of Ireland. Our work is inspired by Catholic Social teachings with an overarching commitment to social justice. In partnership with local organizations and people in Ireland, we work in 20 of the most at-risk countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice and respond to the crises they create.
Trócaire has been operating in Rwanda since 1994, currently focusing on three strategic areas:
- Resource Rights
- Women's Empowerment
- Localization & Partnership
About This Work
Trócaire is committed to ensuring our policies and procedures are fit for purpose and that the actions of our governance structure members, staff, contracted parties, and other third parties—including visitors and volunteers—are always appropriate. We require that our partner organizations demonstrate a similar commitment.
As part of our institutional capacity strengthening process, Trócaire has identified the need to support its partners in developing and strengthening mechanisms (policies and processes) that promote a culture of zero tolerance to abuse. These mechanisms must include:
- Strong preventative measures
- Accessible and safe complaints and response mechanisms for sensitive complaints
Project Scope
Trócaire will support its partners to update a non-financial safeguarding minimum requirement self-assessment and strengthening plan. This activity will be conducted once every three years and seeks to:
- Identify key strengths and weaknesses in partners' safeguarding mechanisms
- Enable Trócaire to identify partners requiring high-level safeguarding support
