About RICEM
The Rwanda Institute for Cooperative, Entrepreneurship, and Microfinance (RICEM) was established in 2014 by MINICOM in partnership with AMIR, NCCR, PSF, RCA, and MINECOFIN. Its mission is to strengthen capacity development for staff in cooperatives and microfinance institutions, promoting professionalism in the sector.
In collaboration with key stakeholders, RICEM introduced the Certified Microfinance Professional (CMP) Program. This competency-based program equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for success in the microfinance sector.
Program Overview
The CMP Program offers two levels of training tailored to different career stages and experience levels. Applications are now being invited for the 2026 intake, with training commencing in April 2026.
CMP Level 1 – Dual System Delivery
Eligibility Requirements
- Microfinance employees including Branch Managers or technical staff (Cashiers, Loan Officers, Accountants, Credit Analysts, HR Officers, Internal Auditors, Frontline Staff)
- Fresh graduates with a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university (Rwanda or abroad)
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
- Commitment to RICEM training regulations
Duration: 1 year

CMP Level 2 – Weekend Program
Eligibility Requirements
- Junior MFI/Bank staff with 3 years of experience in the microfinance sector, OR
- Senior managers (Heads of Departments, Branch Managers) in Microfinance or Banking
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
- Commitment to RICEM training regulations
Duration: 1 year
