About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated professional to join our team as a Shelf Attendant. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining product displays, managing inventory, and ensuring a clean and organized shopping environment.
Receiving, Stocking & Merchandising
- Receive products from back store/receiving area; verify quantities, conditions, and codes before shelving
- Replenish shelves promptly; follow FIFO/FEFO (FEFO mandatory for pharmacy and perishables)
- Merchandise to planograms; maintain faced-up, organized displays
- Flag low stock, damages, and near-expiry items; initiate pull-outs and transfers as instructed
Pricing, Labeling & Barcoding
- Ensure all items have correct price tags/barcodes; replace missing or incorrect labels immediately
- Apply promotional and markdown labels accurately; remove expired promo tags
- Report price discrepancies to the supervisor for correction
Expiry Management & Product Integrity
- Conduct daily and weekly expiry checks and record findings
- Execute FEFO strictly (pharmacy: mandatory; cold chain items as applicable)
- Isolate expired or compromised products; follow standard operating procedures for quarantine and documentation
Housekeeping, Hygiene & Safety
- Keep shelves, aisles, and surrounding areas clean and unobstructed
- Comply with food safety and pharmacy hygiene protocols; prevent cross-contamination
- Adhere to health, safety, and environment rules: proper lifting, spill management, hazard reporting, and emergency procedures
Customer Assistance & Service
- Greet and assist customers; guide them to products and promotions
- Escalate technical queries to pharmacists or supervisors (pharmacy: do not provide clinical advice)
- Support queue management, gift wrapping, basket and cart retrieval as required
Inventory Control & Shrink Reduction
- Participate in cycle counts and stocktakes; ensure accurate counting and reconciliation
- Minimize shrink by vigilant shelf monitoring, damage handling, and adherence to standard operating procedures
- Report suspicious activity; follow security protocols
Documentation, Systems & Compliance
- Complete checklists for opening and closing procedures, expiry checks, cleaning, and replenishment
- Use POS and stock systems as required
