Position Overview
Thomas Adewumi University is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join the Bursary Department and oversee the Business Ventures of the University operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, effective internal control, and sound financial management practices to support the University's strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws and other statutory financial obligations
- Support budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis
- Implement strong internal controls, risk management, and financial policies
- Provide financial insights to management for decision-making
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions
- Mentor and supervise junior accountants and accounting staff
- Contribute to process improvements and adoption of digital financial systems
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or MBA is an added advantage)
- Professional accounting qualification: ICAN, ACCA, or ANAN (mandatory)
- Minimum of 7 years progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role (preferably in higher education or non-profit sector)
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, IPSAS, and Nigerian financial regulations
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., XERO, Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: ₦550,000 – ₦800,000 per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
