About the Role
A reputable organization seeks a dedicated individual to serve as a School Bus Driver at Greenland Hall in Lagos, Nigeria. This is a critical role responsible for the safe transportation and supervision of students.
Primary Responsibilities
- Safely and punctually drive a school bus over designated routes, adhering to strict time schedules
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with all traffic laws, federal/state regulations, and district policies, including proper use of safety equipment such as seatbelts, flashing lights, and the stop arm
- Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus, following district guidelines for student conduct and reporting behavioral issues to the proper school administrator
- Conduct thorough daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, including checking tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and emergency exits to ensure the vehicle is in safe working condition
- Report any mechanical defects or need for repairs immediately
- Keep the interior of the bus clean and neat
- Know and practice emergency evacuation procedures and administer basic first aid if necessary
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, and the transportation department regarding schedules, delays, or student issues
- Maintain accurate records of route times, mileage, fuel consumption, and student counts
Required Qualifications and Credentials
- Valid driver's license (standard, non-commercial license to start; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class A or Class B designation and Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements typically required)
- Clean driving record free of major violations or excessive points
- Successful completion of criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Passing score on required Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination
