Position Overview
The Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing the project's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plans. This role ensures full compliance with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and project standards by proactively identifying hazards, monitoring site conditions, managing safety certifications, and preventing incidents. The position also provides support as a Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) Officer during construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce the project Safety and Environmental Management Plans
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Monitor site activities to identify danger zones, unsafe conditions, and environmental risks
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments across all work areas
- Identify and control hazards related to construction activities, equipment operation, and traffic interfaces
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly to eliminate identified hazards
- Ensure hazardous materials are properly handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with regulations
- Monitor environmental aspects such as waste management, spill prevention, and site cleanliness
- Assess construction equipment, tools, and machinery for defects or damage that could lead to injuries
- Ensure defective or unsafe equipment is removed from service immediately
- Manage all safety certifications, permits, and approvals required for the project
- Verify that workers and operators hold valid safety training and certifications
- Assist as a Work Zone Traffic Control Officer to ensure safe movement of vehicles and personnel
- Support implementation of traffic management plans during construction activities
- Coordinate with site teams to minimize risks to workers and road users
