Job Summary
The Research Assistant provides vital support in gathering, analyzing, and organizing information to ensure the accuracy, depth, and credibility of publications and projects. This role involves conducting in-depth research, verifying facts, developing content outlines, and assisting writers or editors in producing high-quality, well-informed materials.
The Research Assistant works closely with the Managing Director to turn data and stories into compelling, insightful narratives, especially on biography projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research by collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information from credible sources
- Fact-check data to ensure factual accuracy in all written content
- Assist writers and editors by developing outlines, timelines, and background materials for articles, books, or documentaries
- Maintain a well-organized database of research findings, references, and interview transcripts
- Support story development by identifying key subjects and conducting preliminary interviews when required
- Proofread and edit drafts to ensure clarity, coherence, and alignment with the publication's tone and purpose
- Collaborate with the creative and production teams to align research findings with storytelling goals
- Prepare concise summaries, briefs, and reports for internal or external use
- Handle sensitive or unpublished information with discretion and integrity
Requirements
- Minimum of B.A or B.Sc qualification (postgraduate diploma is an advantage)
- Good spoken and written communication skills
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet use)
- Trustworthy, discreet, and dependable character
- Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision
- Proximity to the job location in Lagos is an added advantage
