Position Overview
This role offers a great opportunity for career growth. As a Nutritionist and Dietetics Officer, you will be responsible for translating scientific information about nutrition into practical advice to help patients make health-conscious decisions about food. You will assess, diagnose, and treat diet-related problems while raising awareness of the link between food and health to prevent future complications.
Key Responsibilities
- Practice as a member of an interdisciplinary team to determine nutritional needs of patients and plan normal and therapeutic menus
- Plan, calculate, and transcribe therapeutic diets into food according to prescription
- Supervise and prepare special diets
- Manage feeding of critically ill patients, including preparation of nasogastric tube feeds
- Oversee nutritional rehabilitation of malnourished adults and children in the hospital
- Manage catering services
- Ensure food service policies and procedures are available and implemented to guide personnel
- Conduct routine kitchen inspections for hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment
- Participate in medical consultants' ward rounds
- Educate patients through various media on diet-related issues
- Attend clinical meetings
- Conduct routine visits and dietary counseling of in-patients as scheduled by physicians
- Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner using appropriate formats and forms
- Participate in patient dietary planning
- Conduct dietary counseling sessions for patients
- Respond to patient inquiries in a professional, courteous, and timely manner, providing information on nutritional care and services
Required Qualifications
- Minimum B.Sc. in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
- 2–5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role, preferably in the health sector
- Licensed member of the Dietetics Council of Nigeria
