About the Role
The Nutrition Field Assistant will support the implementation of the Nutrition component in Borno state, providing critical field-level support for nutrition programs and community outreach activities.
Main Responsibilities
Programme Support & Case Management
- Support the implementation of all CMAM and IMAM activities in implementing communities and outreach sites
- Conduct active case finding through MUAC screening to identify SAM/MAM cases, complications, non-responders, and referrals to SC
- Conduct training of caregivers on Mother-led MUAC screening of children 0-59 months of age
- Carry out follow-up visits to ensure screening is done accurately and documented
- Liaison with Community Nutrition Mobilizers to provide effective follow-up of all SAM and MAM cases, particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, defaulted, or not gaining weight
Caregiver Training & Support
- Conduct caregiver training on the Tom-Brown approach and monitor utilization of the product by caregivers for their MAM children
- Provide technical support for IYCF lead mothers during IYCF activities such as food demonstrations and support group meetings with relevant IYCF key messages
- Support CNMs with monthly home visits to ensure hygiene, sanitation, and IYCF positive practices are being practiced by caregivers
Supervision & Coordination
- Directly supervise the activities of community volunteers during sensitization and clinic activities
- Liaison with other partners, local authorities, and stakeholders including returnees, host communities, and local leaders on food security-related matters
- Compile and submit daily progress reports to the nutrition officer through the community supervisor (direct line manager)
General Responsibilities
- Report progress and problems promptly
- Perform other responsibilities assigned by superiors
