MHC Operator at Tincan Island Container Terminal

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Mobile Harbor Crane (MHC) Operator to join our dynamic team at Tincan Island Container Terminal in Lagos. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and discharging of containers and cargoes from vessels and barges at the quay area within the terminal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

MHC Operation

• Start up the Mobile Harbor Crane (MHC) and position it for operations based on instructions from the Shift Supervisor/Lead
• Conduct routine checks on the crane to ensure it is in good condition for operations and identify any safety issues
• Set up the crane and commence crane operations by lifting, moving, and positioning containers in designated locations in a safe and efficient manner
• Monitor crane stability, load weight, and working conditions during operations
• Carry out instructions from the vessel supervisor/manager according to the bay plan or work schedule
• Resolve mobile harbor crane operations issues within the scope of operations
• Communicate issues that emerge during crane operations to the MHC Shift Supervisor
• Provide information to the MHC Shift Supervisor for the development of various reports including crane status, availability, and general operations

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all safety requirements, including proper tool usage and maintaining a safe working environment
• Keep the mobile harbor crane cabin environment clean at all times
• Attend weekly toolbox meetings
• Utilize personal protective equipment at all times in work areas

Teamwork & Performance

• Work collaboratively with the team to complete designated tasks
• Take ownership of personal performance using the TICT performance management system
• Attend and maximize training recommended by Supervisors and HR to close performance and development gaps
• Support the induction of new team members into the unit
• Perform any other duties as required by the business
