Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Field Officer at ICRC - International Committee of the Red Cross

About the Role

Under the supervision of the MHPSS Team Leader, you will implement Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities at local and national levels in collaboration with the team leadership. You will provide direct support to people affected by armed conflict and/or other situations of violence, and train and supervise others to do the same. You will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all MHPSS activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and follow up on MHPSS activities aligned with ICRC MHPSS guidelines and framework
• Train and supervise Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) staff, volunteers, and other organizations/partners/teams according to program strategy and Plan of Action
• Organize referrals of beneficiaries and perform case follow-up as needed
• Set up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools in compliance with ICRC standards, and ensure regular data collection
• Develop and maintain contacts with NRCS, health authorities, technical teams from other organizations, and relevant stakeholders
• Create and maintain direct links with MHPSS program beneficiaries
• Maintain regular communication with the Mental Health & Psychological Support team and/or MHPSS Team Leader, providing program updates and information
• Collaborate effectively with other ICRC departments (Protection, Economic Security, Health, etc.) to ensure a cross-cutting, integrated, and multidisciplinary approach
• Identify key community actors and health staff who would benefit from mental health awareness, sensitization, and/or basic psychological and psychosocial support training in coordination with the MHPSS delegate
• Maintain regular links with key actors and health facilities to ensure beneficiary identification and referral pathways remain relevant and functional
• Participate constructively in weekly supervision with the MHPSS Team Leader and in peer supervision sessions
