Position Overview
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Microbiology to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for studying organisms that cause illness and infections—including viruses, bacteria, archaea, fungi, algae, and protozoa—in patients. You will play a critical role in diagnosing patients and preventing epidemics within our hospital. Additionally, you will investigate the causes of contagious diseases and research new treatments for infections.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe, monitor, and identify microorganisms in patient samples
- Track microorganisms across various laboratory environments
- Collect, monitor, and assess samples from different sources
- Utilize a variety of identification methods, including molecular techniques, to test samples and determine infection-causing organisms
- Develop new techniques, products, and processes for microbiology testing
- Develop and implement methods to prevent the spread of diseases and infections
- Evaluate and register new medicines, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and pharmaceutical products in clinical trials
- Develop products such as enzymes, vitamins, hormones, and antimicrobials
- Work with specialized computer software to conduct studies and research
- Input data and maintain relevant laboratory databases
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records
- Maintain all laboratory instrumentation and equipment in proper working condition
- Participate in hospital infection control committee meetings
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by Senior Leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) degree
- 1–3 years of relevant experience
- Valid license to practice as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
- Professional memberships and certifications as required
