About the Role
Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer for a water treatment plant project in Lagos, Nigeria. This position involves engineering design, vendor management, and quality assurance for a large-scale water treatment facility.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
- Prepare and review design calculations for rotary and packaged equipment including:
- Pumps (Raw Water, River Water, HRSCC Feed, Chemical Transfer, Backwash, Sludge)
- Blowers and compressors (if applicable)
- Chemical dosing and unloading packages
- Skid-mounted packages (UF, RO auxiliaries, chlorination, dosing systems)
- Review vendor drawings and documents including mechanical datasheets, GA drawings, P&IDs, and layouts
- Perform equipment sizing and selection calculations
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable standards (API, ASTM, ASME, ISO, MSS)
Vendor Engineering & Technical Bid Evaluation
- Prepare RFQs and technical specifications for rotary and packaged equipment
- Conduct Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) and vendor comparison for various packages
- Review and approve vendor drawings, documents, and datasheets
- Coordinate with vendors for technical clarifications, deviations, and optimizations
- Review painting specifications, materials of construction, noise limits, and inspection/testing requirements
Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with Process, Civil, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams regarding equipment layout and accessibility
- Support power requirements and motor selection
- Collaborate on instrumentation and control philosophy
- Support preparation of load lists, I/O lists, and equipment interfaces
Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Review and approve Inspection & Test Plans (ITP)
- Participate in or review Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), performance tests, noise tests, and dimensional inspections
- Review Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions from vendors
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Technical Knowledge
Proficiency with the following codes and standards is essential:
- ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, EN
- Hydraulic Institute (HI)
- MSS SP standards
- Painting and corrosion protection standards
