Lead Nurse - Pediatrics unit

Position Overview

The Pediatric Nurse Lead oversees the daily operations of the Pediatrics ward, supervising nurses and other healthcare staff (including CHEWs and Interns). This role ensures proper care is provided to pediatric patients, trains the team in prioritizing care based on medical needs, and maintains Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management System (QMS) standards while adhering to international best practices.

Employee Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform professional nursing care to patients admitted to the pediatrics ward
• Conduct admission assessments, review patient history, and develop care plans for patients using the nursing process format in HMS
• Ensure new patient files are created in the HMS immediately after admission or birth
• Ensure medications and treatments are administered according to physician orders and medication policy and protocols
• Ensure proper documentation of patient care, partograph, and baby birth certificates in an appropriate manner
• Manage patient discharge planning
• Ensure the unit is stocked with standard levels of consumable supplies, medications, and equipment
• Coordinate, evaluate, and supervise employees in the provision of patient care
• Administer staffing, oversee staff training, and ensure adequate unit coverage
• Monitor quality of care and ensure department activities align with corporate goals

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Registered Midwife (RM) with a valid practicing license from NMCN
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science (B.NSc)
