## Title: Junior Legal & Compliance Associate

About the Role

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Junior Legal & Compliance Associate.

Responsibilities and Duties

General Support

  • Provide general support to the Department
  • Draft and review business contracts for approval
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare initial legal opinions on legal and regulatory compliance issues as directed by the team

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

  • Support the drafting, implementation, and periodic review of compliance policies and procedures
  • Monitor regulatory developments, particularly from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), and assess potential impacts on the company's operations
  • Prepare draft responses to regulators on compliance issues, queries, and routine correspondence
  • Participate in Data Protection audits and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations

Risk Management

  • Assist in identifying legal and regulatory risks and propose practical solutions or risk mitigation measures

Training and Awareness

  • Draft training materials and support the delivery of compliance training sessions to staff

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely completion of assigned tasks in line with departmental SOPs
  • Effective support to the Senior Associate and Head of Unit
  • Ability to prioritize, manage workload, and multitask effectively
  • Proactive identification of potential risk areas with practical recommendations

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian laws and regulations, particularly those relevant to the insurance industry
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and research skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and contribute innovative ideas
  • Proficiency in Office 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Prior knowledge or experience in Nigerian Medical Law (advantageous)
