Role Mission

Ensure that greenhouse seedling production and related activities are conducted and managed with a focus on efficiency, quality, consistency, and sound business practices.

Role Goals

• Manage day-to-day operations of the greenhouse
• Ensure timely and efficient seeding of required quantities of tomato seedlings for all fields throughout the season
• Maximize greenhouse utilization by planting tomatoes and other vegetables during non-seeding periods

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain proper environmental conditions required for plant growth in research and instructional programs
• Inspect greenhouse plants for diseases and insects; supervise and conduct application of sprays and chemicals to manage weeds, pests, and diseases
• Work with the Farm Operations Manager to determine types and quantities of vegetable plants to be grown based on budgets, projected sales volumes, and executive directives
• Develop the greenhouse into a revenue-generating unit by strategically planning and growing marketable vegetables in high demand during off-seeding seasons
• Maintain comprehensive inventory records of all greenhouse items and materials signed out from the warehouse
• Provide detailed reports to the Farm Operations Manager on inputs, labor costs, stand counts, seeded trays, and distribution to all farm divisions after each seeding operation
• Direct repair and preventative maintenance of the greenhouse, auxiliary facilities, and equipment
• Install and maintain all drip irrigation systems within and around the greenhouse
• Oversee and participate in all procedures including planting, irrigation, pruning, weeding, fumigation, integrated pest management (IPM), fertilizing, and disease control
