Main Function
The Generator Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing diesel and petrol generators to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply for the facility. The role includes routine inspections, troubleshooting, load testing, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs while ensuring safety and compliance with engineering standards.
Key Requirements
The ideal candidate must be technically skilled, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and experienced in handling various generator brands and capacities.
Responsibilities
Installation and Commissioning
- Install and commission new generators, control panels, and power systems
- Ensure proper alignment, connection, and grounding of generators
- Set up and configure automatic changeover switches (ATS) and power distribution units
- Test-run generators to confirm proper operation after installation
Preventive Maintenance
- Carry out scheduled servicing of generators, including oil changes, filter replacements, and coolant checks
- Inspect belts, hoses, batteries, terminals, and electrical connections
- Perform routine checks on fuel quality, leakage, lubrication, and engine performance
- Maintain detailed service logs for all generators
Troubleshooting and Repairs
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults in generator systems
- Repair or replace faulty components such as alternators, starter motors, fuel pumps, radiators, and control systems
- Resolve issues with ATS panels, breakers, and power distribution systems
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and restore power supply with minimal downtime
Operational Monitoring
- Conduct regular load tests to ensure generator performance efficiency
- Monitor generator runtime hours and advise on service intervals
- Ensure correct fuel usage and report unusual fuel consumption patterns
- Monitor noise levels, vibration, and exhaust conditions
