Field Officer Environment at Beyond Beans Foundation

About the Role

We are seeking a Field Officer – Environment to work at our offices in Gbongan, Osun State and Ikom, Cross River State. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of environmental policies within our agricultural projects. In this position, you will engage and train farmers, work directly with field personnel and stakeholders, and support the promotion of climate-smart activities across Nigeria.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Motivate farmers to adopt environmental practices such as climate-smart agriculture and agroforestry by building trust and strong relationships through informal engagement
• Implement activities to achieve targets for Beyond Beans' Environment Projects, specifically within Environment and Agroforestry commitments
• Provide one-on-one coaching to project farmers on sustainable agricultural practices and farm business decision-making, creating tailored plans for each farmer
• Establish and manage shade tree and cocoa seedling nurseries
• Coordinate the distribution of cocoa seedlings and shade trees
• Provide training to farmers on climate-smart cocoa practices
• Assist farmers in obtaining and producing fertilizer, and ensure correct use of agrochemicals to improve yields
• Establish demonstration farms and host training sessions to educate farmers on best practices
• Report regularly to the Agroforestry and Environment Supervisor on achievements and challenges

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources, or related field
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in crop production
• Well-motivated and proactive approach to work
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate in local dialects (Yoruba, Ikom, or Pidgin)
