Job Summary
This position offers a great opportunity for career growth while supporting the implementation of disability-inclusive programs and activities in the community. You will promote equal access to services and opportunities for persons with disabilities through awareness-raising, identification and referral to services, and mobilization of community members to support disability inclusion.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Educate community members about disability rights, inclusion principles, and the importance of respectful attitudes.
- Challenge stigma, discrimination, and misconceptions about disability.
- Promote positive messaging on inclusion through meetings, home visits, and community events.
- Identify persons with disabilities in the community, including those who may be hidden or underserved.
- Conduct basic screenings or observations (non-medical) to recognize potential support needs.
- Refer individuals to appropriate services such as health care, rehabilitation, assistive devices, education, or social protection.
- Help persons with disabilities navigate local services and community structures.
- Accompany individuals to service points when needed.
- Advocate for reasonable accommodations to ensure accessibility (e.g., seating arrangements, communication support, prioritization).
- Encourage the participation of persons with disabilities in community meetings, trainings, and livelihood activities.
- Ensure that community feedback mechanisms are accessible.
- Support inclusive community structures such as disability committees or support groups.
- Maintain simple records of individuals identified, services accessed, and barriers faced.
- Report challenges and protection concerns to supervisors or disability focal points.
- Contribute to mapping of local resources and accessibility gaps.
- Recognize and report cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation involving persons with disabilities.
