About the Role

The School Nurse/Matron is a registered professional nurse working in the school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. This position combines clinical nursing expertise with residential care responsibilities in a boarding school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Health Assessment and Prevention:

• Provide comprehensive health assessments including obtaining health and developmental history
• Screen and evaluate findings for deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, and other health indicators
• Observe children for development and health patterns to make nursing assessments and diagnoses
• Identify health findings that fall outside the normal range
• Assist with physical examinations conducted in the school
• Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual student needs

Health Management and Planning:

• Participate as the health specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop health individualized educational plans (I.E.P.)
• Plan and implement school health management protocols for children with chronic health problems
• Administer medication according to established protocols
• Develop and maintain health procedures

Residential and Facility Management:

• Ensure general maintenance, operation, and domestic upkeep of the boarding building to consistently high standards
• Oversee cleanliness, safety, and comfort of residential facilities
