Safety Marshal at Taela HR Advisory

About the Role

Our client, a thriving safety consulting company, is seeking Safety Marshals to work across various project sites throughout Nigeria. This is a contract position, renewable based on excellent performance and project continuation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily Toolbox Talks (TBT) to communicate task-specific hazards and control measures
• Monitor, enforce, and document compliance with all HSE rules, policies, and statutory requirements
• Verify the identity, certification, and competency of all personnel on site to ensure they match approved roles and tasks
• Exercise Stop-Work Authority to immediately halt any unsafe activity or potential hazard
• Conduct routine site inspections and hazard observations, escalating non-compliance to supervisors
• Participate in incident and near-miss reporting and support preliminary investigations
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforce disciplinary actions when necessary
• Support the implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems and verify adherence to work permits
• Maintain updated records of daily safety activities, attendance, briefings, and compliance status
• Collaborate with site supervisors to ensure safe execution of all tasks and promote a strong safety culture

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related technical field (OND accepted with HSE certifications)
• HSE Levels 1, 2 & 3 (or equivalent)
• First Aid/CPR certification
• Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in HSE operations as an HSE Officer

Preferred Experience & Skills

• Experience working on construction, aviation, manufacturing, oil & gas, or technical project sites
• Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, safe work practices, and industry standards
• Proficiency in Permit to Work (PTW) systems
• Ability to identify hazards, enforce controls, and perform site safety inspections
• Skilled in incident and near-miss reporting and preliminary investigations
