Primary Teaching Assistant at Broadoaks British School

Job Purpose

To support the effective delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the primary school, enabling all pupils in Years 1 to 6 to attain their full potential.

Role Overview

The Primary Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in supporting classroom instruction and pupil development. Working closely with classroom teachers, you will be responsible for assisting in the education of students while ensuring all pupils remain safe, secure, and properly supervised at all times.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Class Teacher and Key Stage Coordinator. In the absence of a Key Stage Coordinator, you will report to the Deputy Head of School or Head of School, who will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Support children across the curriculum, with particular focus on mathematics, reading, and writing
• Provide additional help to children with special educational needs or those for whom English is not their first language
• Help develop programmes of learning activities and adapt appropriate materials
• Motivate and encourage pupils to engage with their learning
• Assist with marking and correcting pupil work
• Monitor pupils' prior attainment levels and use this information to set targets for future improvement
• Maintain good discipline in accordance with school policies and staff handbook guidance
• Work with the Class Teacher to monitor the class schedule
• Assist teachers with lesson preparation, including preparing materials and setting up equipment
• Revise lesson material with pupils individually or in small groups
• Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean
• Oversee pupils during non-classroom activities
