## Title: Primary School Teaching Assistant

Job Purpose

To ensure that all primary school pupils attain their potential through the effective delivery of a high quality program of teaching and learning from Year 1 to Year 6.

Role Overview

Teaching assistants are essential to the work of the school. While the class teacher holds primary responsibility for student education, teaching assistants play a vital role in supporting the learning environment. You will work collaboratively with class teachers to ensure all students are safe, secure, and properly supervised at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children across the curriculum, with particular focus on maths, reading, and writing
  • Provide extra help to children with special needs or those for whom English is not their first language
  • Help develop programmes of learning activities and adapt appropriate materials
  • Motivate and encourage pupils to achieve their best
  • Assist with marking and correcting pupil work
  • Monitor pupils' prior levels of attainment and use this information to set targets for future improvements
  • Maintain good discipline by adhering to staff handbook guidelines
  • Work with class teachers to monitor class schedules
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, including gathering materials and setting up equipment
  • Revise lesson material with pupils individually or in small groups
  • Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean
  • Oversee pupils during non-classroom times, including breaks between classes, lunch periods, and field activities
  • Collaborate with class teachers to identify pupil issues and recommend solutions
  • Document pupil progress and communicate with parents to keep them informed
  • Assist class teachers in creating lesson plans
  • Teach specific subjects in agreement with the class teacher and Key Stage Coordinator (typically Nigerian Studies and/or Humanities)
