Job Summary

The Optometrist will be responsible for examining, diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the visual system, eye diseases, and injuries.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform vision tests and analyze results
• Examine patients' eyes courteously using observation, instruments, equipment, and pharmaceutical agents
• Communicate with patients to obtain detailed case histories
• Detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality, or vision defects in patients of all ages
• Identify signs and symptoms of general health conditions (e.g., hypertension, asthma, ulcer, diabetes)
• Refer patients to ophthalmologists when eye problems are beyond the scope of practice
• Provide advice and reassurance to patients on vision-related matters
• Promote eye health by counseling patients on contact lens care and use
• Assist patients in selecting appropriate frames and lenses
• Manage day-to-day operations of the optical department
• Maintain and provide records of department activities
• Administer, organize, and plan practice development
• Liaise with other medical practitioners regarding patient care with chronic ophthalmic conditions
• Meet sales targets for spectacles and contact lenses
• Manage staff including dispensing opticians and clerical staff, with responsibility for training junior staff
• Manage retail aspects of spectacles, contact lenses, and other vision care products
• Ensure availability and timely supply of consumables
• Participate in outreach programs
• Coordinate with team members on hospital/camp operations
• Undertake continuing education and training (CET)

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry from a reputable institution
• Valid practicing license
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in optometry
• Computer skills
