An established company is recruiting for the following position.
Job Purpose
The Marine Technical Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, safe operation, and regulatory compliance of assigned vessels. The role oversees maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, and ensures vessels operate efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Vessel Technical Management
- Oversee the technical condition and performance of assigned vessels.
- Monitor machinery performance, critical equipment, and onboard maintenance systems.
- Ensure PMS (Planned Maintenance System) is properly implemented and updated by vessel crew.
- Conduct routine vessel inspections and issue follow-up action reports.
- Plan and supervise all corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
- Coordinate repairs with shipyards, workshops, and contractors.
- Ensure minimum downtime and cost-effective repair solutions.
- Review and validate requisitions for spare parts and materials.
- Prepare dry-dock specifications, budgets, and repair schedules.
- Supervise dry-docking activities, ensuring quality and timely completion.
- Verify all tests, surveys, and trials are completed before vessel departure.
- Ensure vessels comply with Class, Flag State, Port State, ISM, ISPS, and company standards.
- Work closely with HSE/DPA to close out NCs and audit findings.
- Ensure critical equipment tests and statutory surveys are completed on time.
- Prepare annual technical budgets for each vessel.
- Track and control operational expenses, repairs, and spare parts usage.
- Review and approve technical invoices.
- Provide guidance to Chief Engineers and onboard engineers.
- Assess engineering crew performance and participate in crew competency reviews.
- Support crew training on equipment, safety, and operational procedures.
- Maintain detailed technical reports for management.
- Monitor fuel/lube oil consumption and report anomalies.
- Report breakdowns, incidents, and corrective action plans.
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Marine Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5–10 years’ sea experience (preferably as Chief Engineer).
- Minimum 2–3 years’ shore-based experience as Technical Superintendent (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of tugboats, OSVs, AHTS, barges, or coastal vessels (as applicable).
