Position Summary
The Hygiene Promotion Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring hygiene behaviour change interventions to reduce WASH-related diseases. This role involves promoting safe hygiene practices through participatory and culturally appropriate approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Hygiene Promotion Activities
- Design, plan, and conduct assessments in targeted implementation locations and other areas of interest to identify public health risks
- Plan and design public health promotion activities using evidence-based approaches to mitigate identified risks
- Conduct hygiene promotion sessions at community and institutional levels (schools and health facilities)
- Promote key hygiene behaviours including handwashing, safe water handling, menstrual hygiene, and latrine use
- Lead and support emergency response to disease outbreaks using Case Area Target Intervention (CATI) and other rapid response mechanisms
Community Engagement and Mobilization
- Work with community mobilization officers, community leaders, women's groups, and youth to advance collective hygiene improvement
- Design, develop, and disseminate age-sensitive and culturally appropriate Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials
- Support training and supervision of community hygiene promoters and volunteers
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor adoption of hygiene practices and collect community feedback
- Conduct Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) surveys and contribute to periodic reports
- Document lessons learned and success stories
- Collect, analyse, and document health data in collaboration with health facilities in implementing locations
Coordination
- Work closely with WASH hardware, health/nutrition, and protection teams to ensure integrated programming
- Represent the organization in hygiene-related coordination forums and external meetings
