About the Role
We are seeking a motivated professional to lead our accounting department at our boutique hotel in Lagos. This position is responsible for all financial reporting, developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The role also oversees cost control across operations, monitoring the food and beverage department, housekeeping, facilities, and main stores to ensure proper cost management while maintaining strict adherence to corporate budgets and identifying opportunities to increase company profits.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including month-end and year-end processes
- Handle accounts payable and receivables, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, and utilities management
- Oversee treasury operations, budgeting, and cash forecasting
- Conduct revenue and expenditure variance analysis
- Manage trust account statement reconciliations, check runs, and fixed asset activity
- Monitor debt activity and maintain accurate records
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Monitor and analyze accounting data to produce accurate financial reports and statements
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information
- Obtain and maintain thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure
Policies & Procedures
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
- Prepare standard operating procedures for the accounts department
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document all transactions
Cost Control & Operations Monitoring
- Monitor operations of the food and beverage department, housekeeping, facilities, and main stores
- Ensure proper cost control is maintained across all departments
Compliance & Communication
- Ensure all statutory deductions are remitted on schedule
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions
- Liaise with government officials on matters related to the company
- Clearly communicate the progress of monthly and quarterly initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
