Job Summary
Al-Hikmah University seeks a qualified and enthusiastic Food & Nutrition / Home Economics Teacher to deliver engaging lessons in food preparation, nutrition, household management, and related topics. The teacher will foster practical skills, promote healthy living, and prepare students for WAEC/NECO examinations and future home-making or culinary careers.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Food & Nutrition and Home Economics according to the Nigerian secondary school curriculum (WAEC/NECO syllabi)
- Design lesson plans, schemes of work, and instructional materials that balance theory and hands-on cooking and household activities
- Conduct practical demonstrations in cooking, laundry, sewing, and budgeting, and supervise students during laboratory and kitchen sessions
- Assess student performance through tests, assignments, practical exams, and continuous assessment records
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-equipped kitchen and home-economics laboratory; ensure proper storage of ingredients and equipment
- Counsel students on healthy eating habits, personal hygiene, and sustainable home practices
- Participate in school-wide events, parent-teacher meetings, and extracurricular clubs related to food, nutrition, and home-making
- Keep abreast of curriculum updates, teaching methodologies, and nutrition and health guidelines; attend professional development workshops
- Supervise and mentor support staff in the kitchen and laboratory
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics, Food Science & Nutrition, Food Technology, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience in a recognized secondary school
- Strong practical cooking, sewing, and household management skills
- Ability to prepare students to WAEC/NECO standards and external exams
- Good organizational, communication, and classroom management abilities
- Membership of Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) preferred
