About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated finance professional to join Terra Aqua Environmental Consultancy Limited in Lagos, Nigeria. As Finance Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Bank Reconciliations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of all company bank accounts
- Investigate and resolve all reconciling items, including outstanding deposits, unposted items, bank errors, and other discrepancies
- Prepare and maintain detailed bank reconciliation reports
General Ledger Reconciliations
- Perform regular reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, intercompany accounts, and suspense accounts
- Identify and investigate any variances between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers
- Prepare and post necessary journal entries to correct discrepancies and ensure accuracy
- Maintain supporting documentation for all reconciliations and journal entries
Financial Reporting and Month-End Close
- Assist with the monthly and annual financial close processes
- Contribute to the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by the financial controller
Process Improvement and Controls
- Identify opportunities to improve reconciliation processes and enhance internal controls
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting systems or software as needed
Statutory and Taxation
- Prepare and file monthly Value Added Tax (VAT) and Withholding Tax (WHT) returns
- Compute and remit monthly Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) deductions to the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service for all employees
- Prepare and remit other statutory levies and contributions, such as Pension (PENCOM)
- Monitor and ensure that all tax and statutory deadlines are met to avoid penalties and interest charges
Qualifications and Skills
- HND or BSc in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- ACA certification (preferred)
