Field Technician - Fiber (FTTH, FTTB, FTTX) at BluNet Internet Solutions Limited

Job Objective

Install, commission, and maintain all active equipment, including access and core fiber routes for self-build and leased fiber networks. Achieve recognition as 3rd-level technical competence in network fiber planning.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Grow subscriber activation base within estates and businesses in Lagos or other assigned locations
• Install, configure, and commission all head ends
• Install fiber cables on access and core routes according to best practices and industry standards
• Commission fiber spans and end-to-end fiber circuits using OTDR and OLTS equipment in company-acquired and 3rd party estates
• Verify and capture as-built documentation
• Troubleshoot fiber breakdowns and perform corrective and preventative maintenance
• Liaise with internal Operations, Enterprise account managers, Project Managers, and 3rd party suppliers for deployment execution
• Assist with management and planning of the overall fiber network, including auditing and record management
• Support other departments and lead projects as requested by the Program Manager, with appropriate reporting
• Ensure network design aligns with NetSuite or applicable software systems
• Attend industry events, trade shows, and partner meetings to maintain relationships and identify opportunities

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or equivalent work experience in a technical field
• Minimum 2 years of technical experience in the telecom industry
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in fiber installation and maintenance roles

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of ducts, fiber, build methodologies, splice enclosures, patch panels, OSP (Outdoor Plant) and ISP (Indoor Plant)
• Quality assurance auditing and testing capabilities
• Network risk register management and mitigation
• Optical networking experience, including OTDR and OLTS testing equipment
• Fiber types, testing, splicing, and installation expertise
