Audit Objectives

• Enable auditors to express a professional opinion on the financial statements that Amnesty International Nigeria is required to prepare
• Provide Amnesty International with reliable auditor opinions to support professional assessments on the use of funds in Nigeria

Audit Scope

The audit will cover all funds relating to Amnesty International Nigeria activities for the period 1 January to 31 December 2025.

The audit will review evidence of funds received and disclosures in financial statements to provide reasonable assurance that statements are free from material misstatement, whether caused by fraud or errors.

The audit will be conducted in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards and applicable local laws, including such tests and auditing procedures as deemed necessary.

Key Audit Areas

• Verify that Amnesty International Nigeria funds have been used with due attention to efficiency and economy, and only for purposes for which funding was provided
• Review income and expenditure statements for the period
• Assess whether expenditure categories align with activities supporting grant conditions
• Review statutory compliance with annual returns to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), tax laws, and other regulations, including pension, National Housing Fund (NHF), and Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF)
• Examine the system of internal controls, authority levels, staff competence, segregation of duties, and monitoring arrangements
• Verify that procurements have been carried out in accordance with relevant procedures with consideration for value for money
• Confirm that all necessary supporting documents, records, and accounts have been properly maintained
