Civil Engineering Graduate Trainee

Position Overview

The Civil Engineering Graduate Trainee will support site and office-based engineering activities under the supervision of senior engineers. This role provides hands-on exposure to civil engineering practice, including construction supervision, design interpretation, quality control, and project documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising civil engineering works including earthworks, concrete works, drainage, roads, and structural elements
• Support setting-out, leveling, and basic surveying activities under supervision
• Assist in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
• Monitor workmanship and material usage to ensure compliance with approved drawings and standards
• Support implementation of quality control and assurance procedures on site
• Assist in enforcing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards and site safety practices
• Report site challenges, defects, and non-conformities to supervising engineers promptly
• Maintain daily site records, site diaries, and work progress reports
• Assist in preparing basic measurements, reports, and documentation
• Support coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders as directed
• Participate actively in training programs, site briefings, and mentoring sessions
• Demonstrate continuous learning and professional growth in civil engineering practice
• Perform other related duties assigned by supervising engineers in line with training objectives

Required Qualifications and Experience

• B.Sc. / B.Eng. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Completion of NYSC (Discharge or Exemption Certificate required)
• 0–3 years post-NYSC experience in construction or engineering projects is advantageous
