We are looking for a qualified candidate to fill this position.
Role Summary:
- The Chief Mate is the second-in-command on the vessel and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all deck and marine operations. This role ensures that DAJO Energy Limited’s marine logistics activities are carried out in line with regulatory requirements, company standards, and operational objectives.
- Lead and coordinate all onboard marine and deck operations to ensure safe, efficient, and commercially viable vessel performance
- Translate voyage plans and operational directives into structured onboard execution
- Enforce full compliance with international maritime regulations, NIMASA requirements, and DAJO Energy Limited’s operational standards
- Plan and supervise berthing, mooring, anchoring, and cargo-related operations in line with marine logistics objectives
- Drive a strong onboard safety culture, ensuring zero tolerance for unsafe practices
- Implement vessel Safety Management System (SMS) and ensure audit readiness at all times
- Maintain continuous operational readiness of deck machinery, lifesaving appliances, and safety equipment
- Lead emergency preparedness, drills, and crew competency development
- Structure deck operations for efficiency, minimizing downtime and operational risk
- Supervise, mentor, and discipline deck crew to maintain professional standards onboard
- Conduct routine inspections and ensure timely rectification of deficiencies
- Support the Master in navigation planning, risk assessment, and voyage execution
- Serve as the vessel’s primary safety authority and operational coordinator
- Produce operational, safety, and incident reports for shore management
- Act as the Master’s operational delegate when required
- Uphold DAJO Energy Limited’s brand, professionalism, and service expectations onboard
- Valid Chief Mate Certificate of Competency (STCW II/2) issued by NIMASA or an equivalent recognised authority
- Possess all mandatory training, valid certifications, and requisite sea-going experience in accordance with STCW and flag-state requirements.
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ seagoing experience on commercial vessels
- Prior experience in marine logistics, cargo handling, or maritime service operations
- Strong working knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and vessel compliance
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marine Studies, Nautical Science, Maritime Transport, or a related field is an added advantage.
