Base Station Subsystem Engineer at Infratel Africa

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified Base Station Subsystem Engineer to oversee the deployment, configuration, integration, and maintenance of Base Station Subsystem (BSS) equipment across GSM/UMTS/LTE technologies. The role involves troubleshooting of BTS/NodeB/eNodeB sites, transmission interfaces, and alarms while ensuring all sites operate within defined performance thresholds.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and support BSCs, core network servers, and associated infrastructure
• Perform installation, integration, and commissioning of BTS/NodeB/eNodeB equipment across multiple OEMs
• Conduct routine and corrective maintenance for RAN and core subsystems, ensuring service availability and stability
• Resolve hardware faults, transmission issues, and major/minor alarms on both radio and core elements
• Support software upgrades, parameter updates, and configuration changes on BSS and core platforms
• Participate in network swap, expansion, and modernization projects
• Monitor BSS and core KPIs, providing feedback to RF and Operations teams for performance improvement
• Prepare detailed maintenance reports, outage logs, and site acceptance documentation
• Ensure adherence to network security, safety procedures, and operational standards

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or related discipline
• 2–5 years of practical experience in BSS operations and field maintenance
• Strong knowledge of GSM/UMTS/LTE radio equipment, power systems, and transmission technologies (Satellite/Microwave/IP)
• Experience with Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, ZTE, or other OEM BSS platforms (advantageous)
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
