Assistant Finance Manager at Business Day Newspaper

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Finance Manager to support our finance department. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, streamlining accounting processes, and supporting strategic financial planning.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong foundation in accounting principles and a desire to grow into a leadership position. You will play a key role in month-end close, financial analysis, and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Perform variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) and provide insightful commentary to management
• Support the budgeting and forecasting processes

Accounting Operations

• Oversee and manage the general ledger, ensuring all accounts are reconciled accurately and timely
• Supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring efficiency and compliance
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes

Compliance & Internal Controls

• Ensure adherence to company policies and relevant accounting standards
• Assist with internal and external audit preparations
• Help maintain and strengthen internal control procedures

Team Leadership & Development

• Supervise, mentor, and train junior accounting staff
• Delegate tasks and review the work of the accounting team for accuracy

Strategic Support

• Provide financial data and analysis to support business decisions and special projects
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA or CMA certification highly preferred
• 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
